Antique Bottle and Collectables Show comes to Wauchope

The Wauchope Lions Club in association with Hastings Valley Bottle and Collectables Club is proud to bring to Wauchope an Antique Bottle and Collectables Show and Trading Fair. The Fair will be held at Wauchope Showground on Saturday 11/9/10 and Sunday 12/9/10 starting at 9.00am each day. It is hoped that the Show will become a regular item on the collector’s annual schedule and that Wauchope will feature as one of the major centres due to its location and good climate during September.

A host of traders and hundreds of the general public are expected to visit the Fair, some to buy items, others just to view the amazing collection of old wares.

Spokesperson Henry Higgins said that there were over 100 different classifications of entries including such classes as kerosene lamps, gramophones, cameras, tin toys, silver ware, kitchen ware, ceramics, avon collectables, teapots, spoons,australiana and a vast range of glass containers and bottle types.

Work to Start on Cycleway in Wauchope

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council will start work on a new cycleway in Wauchope straight after the Christmas holidays.

Work will commence on the Beechwood Road cycleway linking Bain Street to the Riverbreeze Estate. Work was due to begin in October, however due to a review of the scope of works and its impact on the available funding for this project, it was necessary to delay the commencement of works.

New Speed Zones for the Hastings

New speed zones proposed for the Port Macquarie Local Government Area will be on public display from today.

Earlier this year the Roads and Traffic Authority conducted a review of speed zones along Ocean Drive and Hastings River Drive and have recommended 5 speed zone changes.

During the review process, submissions from the community were invited commenting on the existing speed zones as well as suggesting changes.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s Director of Infrastructure Services, Jeffery Sharp said, “The RTA is proposing to introduce the speed zone changes next year.

Pugsley Buzzard to play at the Wauchope Arts Centre

Pugsley Buzzard, piano player and singer will be playing at the Wauchope Arts Centre on Friday Novemmebr 27. Pugsley’s shows are exciting and captivating at the centre is his huge mesmerizing voice and dazzling piano playing delivered with a vaudevillian nuance and humour.

Pugsley describes himself as “a grizzly bear in a porkpie hat rummaging through a piano.” A fascinating character of imposing stature with a rich and raspy blues drenched baritone voice that can make the ladies sigh and and grown men cry. A bone shaking shaman howling the blues and an eccentric raconteur who never fails to entertain and delight his audiences.

4500 Signatures to keep Timbertown open

Oxley MP, Andrew Stoner has today sent a petition to Port Macquarie Hastings Council signed by over 4500 people opposed to any plans by Council to close or downgrade Timbertown at Wauchope.

“This petition demonstrates the overwhelming public support for the continuation of Timbertown and also its significance to the local community,” Mr Stoner said.

“With the consultation phase in progress, it is important that the public’s strong views on Timbertown’s future are known to Council.

“People from all over Australia have signed the petition, no doubt each one of them touched by the magic of Timbertown.

Wauchope CBD open day

Local residents are invited to this Saturday’s open day at Bain Park at Wauchope to discuss how Wauchope’ town centre is expected to develop into the future.

A draft urban design framework has been prepared to guide future development and public space upgrades throughout the Wauchope town centre over the next 10-15 years.

The draft Framework focuses on commercial/retail, recreational and cultural precincts of the town centre and has been prepared in consultation with the Wauchope Taskforce and other community representatives.

Director of Development and Infrastructure, Matt Rogers said, “Council wants community opinion on the Framework and in particular we are seeking assistance in determining a shared ‘vision’ for the future of the Wauchope town centre and the implementation priorities for works to achieve that vision.
