Contracts for the sale of the Timbertown Heritage Theme Park at Wauchope were exchanged late last week and are expected to be settled on the 1st June.
The decision by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to sell the park followed lengthy community consultation and now ensures the future of the theme park.
Council Administrator, Garry Payne said, “Council negotiated a sale price of $1.575 million which was the best price possible in the current economic climate.
“The sale means the annual operating cost incurred by Council is avoided, as well as Council not having to spend millions of dollars upgrading the park.

After widespread community consultation, a report presented at last tonight’s Council meeting has identified seven options for the future of Timbertown.
The options included in the report range from closure of Timbertown, offering a long term lease, appointing a board of management to full redevelopment plus several other options. Council will now analyse the viability of each of the proposed operating models and will report back to the Administrator.
Administrator, Garry Payne said, “While Council still has no preferred position on Timbertown, the report presented tonight does include seven potential operating models that will be further considered in the coming months.
“I have asked that the proposed operating models be referred to Council’s Opportunities Board for them to form a view as to the viability of these options,” Mr Payne said.

Timbertown is considered by many to be one of Australia’s finest Heritage Parks. Since opening in 1976, approximately 2,000,000 people have visited the park from all parts of Australia and from around the world.
One very special volunteer at Timbertown who shows a dedication far beyond her years is Mary-Anne Warner – Australia’s youngest bullocky. She can handle, yoke, unyoke and work a bullock team better than most, and she is just 13 years of age!
Although originally starting at the heritage theme park as part of the Timbertown Performing Arts Troupe, she is now bullocky Craig Lockwood’s offsider.

As part of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s review of Timbertown, more than 600 local residents are being surveyed this week on the planning options for theme park.
The information gained from the survey, as well as a series of community and online discussion forums, will help Council to determine the future of Timbertown.
The aim of the public forums at Wauchope, Port Macquarie and Laurieton is to give residents the opportunity to gain an understanding of the facts behind the current position of Timbertown and to discuss options for the future.
Council’s Business Services Manager, Craig Swift-McNair said, “The format of the forums will be similar to that of the recent 2030 Community forums conducted by Council whereby groups were formed to discuss four or five key topics relating to the future direction of Timbertown.
