
AUSTRALIA’S first ever Vertical Wind Tunnel has opened in Port Macquarie thanks to the vision of the local Extreme Velocity team said Independent MP for Lyne Robert Oakeshott today.
“Christian Corse has built this thrilling, skydiving simulation ride from the ground up as part of his long term vision of creating an Extreme Fun Park on 22 acres of land opposite the airport in Port Macquarie,” said Mr Oakeshott.
“This is a first for Australia and a second for the Southern Hemisphere, making the Mid North Coast a leader in extreme leisure rides.
“It is great to see another local business literally taking the plunge and adding to the tourism value of our region.

Asia’s largest food and hospitality expo is experiencing a taste of Port Macquarie.
Independent MP Peter Besseling said Crema Espresso/Little Perks is serving their fine fare this week to coffee and food lovers more than 6000kms from their popular Clarence St café.
“State and Regional Development has chosen just 20 companies to represent the best in top quality food and wine from NSW, so it is a tremendous accolade to be included in this elite group,” Mr Besseling said.

For the first time outdoor cinema will be a summer entertainment option in the Hastings with five nights of free movies planned for later this month. Hastings Moonlight Movies will feature two screenings in Bain Park Wauchope and three screenings on Port Macquarie’s Town Green.
A concept developed by Member for Port Macquarie Peter Besseling and sponsored by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Country Energy and Newcastle Permanent Building Society the event is set to be a highlight of the summer for locals and tourists.
According to Andrew Roach, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council General Manager one of the aims for the event is to create business in the CBD of both towns.
“We obviously have a lot of tourists in the Hastings at this time of year and putting on a family friendly event in the centre of Port Macquarie and Wauchope creates a reason for people to support the restaurants, take-aways and other businesses in the CBD.

Port Macquarie Panthers and Tooheys are thrilled to announce their partnering to present Renovate Your Community.
Six local community organisations will have the opportunity to be part of Renovate Your Community. The organisation who receives the most votes from the community will receive a $20,000 grant for their project. Applications for community organisations will be available online at www.portmacquarie.panthers.com.au or from Club reception from 15 January.
Applications will be received up until 15 February. These applications will be considered by the Renovate Your Community Committee consisting of Andrew Roach (Port Macquarie Hastings Council General Manager), Peter Besseling MP (Independent Member for Port Macquarie) and representatives from both Panthers and Tooheys.

Independent Member for Port Macquarie, Peter Besseling, says local residents have just days to comment on the NSW Government’s draft coastal planning guidelines.
“Climate change and coastal erosion are hot topics at the moment, so it’s important that residents who have a contribution to make towards better planning outcomes for coastal communities have their say before Friday’s (December 11) deadline,” Mr Besseling said.
“There is plenty of concern in coastal communities about the impact of storm surges, king tides and dune erosion on privately and publicly owned property, particularly in regard to coastal erosion within our local area.”

The MP, who is a member of the parliamentary committee conducting the inquiries, said the focus of the Transforming Life Outside Cities: the Potential of Broadband Services (Inquiry) would focus on the benefits and opportunities for rural and regional communities of having access to telecommunications, such as broadband, and other technology services.

Independent Member for Port Macquarie, Peter Besseling, has welcomed the start of the next stage of the $158 million upgrade of the Oxley Highway.
“The contract for the highway’s upgrade to dual carriageway between the recently finished Wrights Road roundabout and Pacific Highway has been awarded to BMD Constructions,” Mr Besseling said.
“The project, which was allocated $25 million in the 2009/10 budget, has been a transport priority for our community for a decade, so it is pleasing to see the six kilometre upgrade moving into its next phase.
“This will provide for dual carriageway entry into Port Macquarie, for the entire length of the Oxley Highway from the Pacific Highway – a much safer and more efficient result for our community and visitors to our area.

The state’s beach-haul netting industry will be reviewed following an incident at Crowdy Head last month that left possibly thousands of Australian salmon dead on the beach.
Less than 24 hours after alerting the NSW Parliament to the incident, the Independent Member for Port Macquarie, Peter Besseling, has been assured by Premier Nathan Rees that an investigation will be launched.
During question time today, Mr Besseling again took the opportunity to alert the government to the failed beach-hauling exercise at Crowdy Head, and called for an investigation into the practices of interstate beach-haul netting crews working along the NSW coastline.

Members of the Port Macquarie Hastings Foreshore Association are have been advised by local MP Peter Besseling that it is likely the State Government’s Plan of Management for the area from Settlement Point to Town Beach is likely to be placed on public exhibition over the Christmas New Year period.
This information was given to members at their recent meeting when Mr Besseling and other community members of the State Government’s committee, FLAG, attended.
“This is a typical tactic used by government where an extremely important public document is put on exhibition for community comment at a time when people are busy with holidays,, family and other commitments,” said Association President Jaci Cartwright.
