Tastings of the Hastings Art Competition

Local artists are invited to enter the inaugural ‘Tastings of the Hastings Art Competition’, sponsored by Long Point Vineyard and Art Gallery at Lake Cathie. The event will run in conjunction with the successful annual Food and Wine Festival supported by local farmers, producers, restaurants and wineries.

The competition hopes to attract many local artists and a variety of styles, all showcasing the competition theme – ‘Homegrown’.

Event organiser and owner of Long Point Vineyard, Graeme Davies, explains the homegrown theme as: “Any representation of the produce, people and places in our local area where food or wine is grown, made, sold or enjoyed.”

With a $3,000 first prize for the Open Section and $500 from Country Energy for the Youth Section, the competition is open to any painting media. Dr Leigh Summers, director of the Coffs Harbour regional gallery, will be judging the event.

Glenn Dick exhibition at the Armidale Gallery

Local Port Macquarie Artist Glen Dick is presenting a series of his best works at the Armidale Gallery this month.  While traditionally accomplished Glenn’s latest work is a collection of unique heritage-based stories and anecdotes represented by a modern, contemporary flair.  His work is a reflection of his passion for Australia’s coastal heritage and is not to be missed.

The exhibition includes a selection of 10 works which reflects the past 5 or 6 years of Glenn’s work – mainly paintings with historical content which have been seen down here on the coast of Port Macquarie.  Paintings include a large scale work titled ‘THE ELOPERS’, a somewhat sensitive piece about 2 young people who fled from Port Macquarie to the Camden Haven in the 1860′s only to be discovered by a trooper and returned.  ”FIRST SERMON AT ST. THOMAS’” describes the hypocrisy of the teaching from the bible of trust and kindness and good will to your fellow man etc, whilst the convicts were herded like cattle into the rear of the church, many of them having just been flogged on the triangle down in Horton Street.
