Settlers Inn wins charity bash

The first ever Pub v Pub Charity Bash and Family Fun Day was held recently at Wayne Richards Park.  The 22/22 cricket match was played between Tacking Point Tavern and The Settlers Inn.

Settlers Inn won the toss and elected to bat under cloudy and overcast conditions.

The settlers Inn managed to score a very respectable score of 9 for 132 off of their allotted 22 overs.  Luke Watts and Jack Lawton both top-scored with 27 runs.

In reply, the Tacking Point Tavern team were on the back foot early as ‘Man of The Match’ Ray ‘Addo’ Adams ripped through the top order taking 4 for 11 of his two overs.

In the end, the Tacking Point Tavern side never really recovered from Rays onslaught, and in the chase for quick runs, continued to lose quick wickets and were eventually bowled out in the 18th over with a score just short of 100.

The crowd was not as big as were hoping, (maybe about 150 people all up) but we believe the poor weather was a major factor behind this.  Those that did show up, bravely saw out the odd shower or two, and were rewarded by what was in the end, a very entertaining day of cricket.

Players were ‘chauffeured’ out to bat, by Rod Burton and his golf “beer” buggy!  Very funny indeed.  The same buggy also ensured that fielders from both teams were always kept ‘well hydrated’!

The ‘Party Professionals DJ’s also kept the crowd entertained with their mix of high-energy music, and eclectic running commentary.

Local racing identity Ken Gentles should be acknowledged for $50 donation, as he said “because it was great entertainment”.

The crowd was kept well hydrated AND well fed by the Party Professionals hard working team of volunteers through-out the whole day, and the kids all had a great time on the two jumping castles and getting their faces painted.

All in all a great day, and we are definitely calling the day a success.  A grand total of $2130 was raised for the Port Macq Base Hospital, and both teams have said they will DEFINITELY be back for “Charity Bash 2” in March 2011.
