Kendall Winter Music – Music for Friends

Live Music Sydney, a co-operative of musicians, has announced a visit to Kendall for a weekend of classical chamber music on June 26 and 27, 2010. A group of 12 emerging young artists will perform music by Schubert and Shostakovich under the title ‘Kendall Winter Music – Music for Friends’. The initiative is directed by Goetz Richter, well known to Kendall audiences as the founding artistic director of the Camden Haven Music Festival and long-time artistic director of the Kendall Violin Competition.

Richter, who is a prominent Australian violinist and leader, is excited about the project and the collaboration with emerging young artists. “I am thrilled to be able to introduce to Kendall and to the Camden Haven some wonderful music performed with the passion and energy of youth,” Richter says. “The weekend will be an opportunity to hear music by Schubert and Shostakovich – two very special but also challenging composers. Their beautiful music engages our very soul. It has the capacity to turn our life on its head – if we really listen to this music, our life will never be the same.”

Live Music Sydney is a musicians’ co-operative dedicated to broadening the professional opportunities for emerging artists and to bringing music to audiences without ready access to central concert venues.

The organisation is inspired by the ideals of Lord Yehudi Menuhin and the European organisation ‘Live Music Now!’, which has grown into a powerful force of professional opportunity for young professionals and has provided access to live musical performances for thousands of disadvantaged listeners over the past decade.

The musicians from ‘Live Music Sydney’ will perform on Saturday, June 26 at 3pm and Sunday, June 27 at 11am and at 2.30pm at the Kendall School of Arts Hall.

Their program includes the immortal quintet in C major by Schubert, Shostakovich’s stirring ‘Chamber Symphony’ and the rarely performed Octet, the ‘Trout’ Quintet by Schubert, the Piano quintet by Shostakovich and an arrangement of the famous ‘Death and the Maiden’ string quartet by Schubert for string ensemble by Gustav Mahler.

All program details and ticket prices are available at www.livemusicsydney.net and tickets can be reserved by emailing (kendalltickets@livemusicsydney.net) or by phoning (02) 8721 6472 for ticket collection at the door.
